Use dryer sheets to contain the diaper stench

After using diaper pails for a year or two, they tend to retain the diaper stench regardless of many attempts to clean it. However, I just discovered that putting a few (scented) dryer sheets in the bottom of the pail (we have a Diaper Genie but I’d try it in any diaper system or just a regular pail) really helps the stench. Now we use one underneath the liner in his Diaper Genie and also in our regular trash cans all the time.

I love dryer sheets for stuff like this. I cloth diaper so I have been putting a scoop of baking soda in our pail and that helps to cut down on the smelly factor with the diaper pail.

I wish I would have tried this when we were doing disposable because that Diaper Genie REALLY smelled. Blech!

That’s a fabulous idea, I can’t believe I haven’t thought of it before. I use dryer sheets to freshen up everything else. Thanks so much for sharing! =)

What a great idea!!! I was spraying febreeze in the bottom but when I’d come back in an hour it would still smell and the febreeze wouldn’t kill it. I’ll have to try the dryer sheet thing for sure. Thanks for the idea.

ARGH! I need to do this with the “potty”. It’s really bad. Thankfully, the youngest is ALMOST done with it for good. Whew! ;)

I have a diaper genie too and never thought of this. Wonderful idea! I use them in our kitchen trash and just didn’t think of this. I’ve got wonderful lavendar scented dryer sheets that will work great!
    Thanks a bunch.

It took us this long to figure this out? More scented dryer sheets for all!

Great tip! We have a few trash cans that could use some help in the aroma department. I’ll have to try it out.

What a good idea! We use cloth diapers, so we have a regular pail (instead of a DG or other system), and use a liner, but the smell just doesn’t go away. Yuck! Dryer sheets are good for so many things. :)

Great idea. Dryer sheets are extremely handy…this is the second post about uses for dryer sheets. We no longer use the diaper genie, but I will be putting dryer sheets in all the trashcans from now on. Thanks for sharing.
