The eternal love for his duck continues, as they are still inseperable. Ducky is a much-abused but much-loved friend, who has survived many washings and coloring with all colors of the rainbow (nothing like having a duck shoved in your face while the little one proclaims “Blue ducky, Mama, BLUE!!!”) and who, despite his raggedy looks, still receives several kisses a day.
The duck is now also a method of greeting his friends, as he will greet you by handing you his “DUUUUCCCKKK!” and running off. Be prepared to give it right back, however, as it will be promptly yanked from your hands and shoved under his arm as he takes off for more adventures.
The duck also has a belly button, apparently, and this belly button can be tickled. When it is tickled, you’d better be prepared to make the duck jump a mile high and screech and quack, or suffer a tossing of the duck in your face and the angry screams of Lil’ Duck – “ickle, mama, ICKLE!!”. When the duck reacts properly, his happy cackles of delight are well worth the effort.
Duck also has to sample all of our food, so while eating, one eye must be kept on the little one and the duck to avoid duck soup or other messy cuisine. Sometimes, the duck trying and “enjoying” our food has convinced the little one to also try a bite – ha ha ha.
Right now the little one is fast asleep with the duck cuddled underneath his belly. It’s so sweet to see how much joy a stuffed animal can bring to the little guy.

Aww. That’s so cute!! Aren’t kids so much fun at this age?! Never a dull moment.
A stuffed animal gives me a lot of joy, too…! I love that Lil Duckj is so loyal to his Ducky and from the picture his duck looks in very very good shape! Amazing.
Very cute picture! And…it is sweet to see what favorite things a child has as they grow! My little girl loves her blanket and my son loves his cup!
That duck sure has become an important member of the family! Such a cute picture of Lil Duck!
well, at least that duck is furry and cuddly….My monkey sleeps with a tiny bunny from inside a book (as I think you read in my blog…)! Well, whatever works, right!
he’s so cute!
So sweet.
I’m not ready to be a grandma but I miss my girls being this little and cuddly!
that is so cute! good thing the duck washes so well!
There was a time long ago— 10 years, when I was out shopping with my niece and her friend of choice was a teddy bear…Teddy. Somewhere someplace in that huge mall, The Girl dropped Teddy. We had to retrace all our steps (which were several as the Sis in Law and I were on a power shopping expedition) and I was in the midst of training The Girl on the dos and don’ts of power shopping. (She learned to say, “Charge It” that day— I get all teary eyed thinking about it–sniff sniff)
In any event we finally found Teddy. The Girl was pretty calm considering.
My point? It would have been a heck of a lot easier to find a big yellow duck!!
And I can’t get either of my boys “attached” to anything. The baby does have her lovey object, however.
A washcloth.
I know from experience (those many years ago) that when you have a child attached to something like that, you better buy a 2nd one If you have the chance and put it in a drawer for emergency.
Occasionally a stuffed animal runs away.
Thats when it gets tough.
