The 5 things you need to survive a toddler
- A great sense of humor, so you can laugh at even the worst disaster (think chocolate pudding everywhere)…
- A beloved stuffed animal, who can take your place & help them to fight monsters and other horrible imaginary creatures.
- An ability to survive on next to no sleep, even when the little one decides that 3 hours of sleep broken up into 10 minute bits at night is plenty – then does this all week. Heaven forbid that the word “nap” is even mentioned…
- The knowledge of how to get anything out of carpet, especially an entire container of vegetable oil.
- Cheerios (what, you thought they were just for eating?)!

great list
Yes — well said!
Funny post! I have a daughter who is turning one year old this month (big smiles from daddy) so I can definitely relate. She is our third… and last… child.
Come by and check out my post in the Great Top 5 if you get a chance. Good luck in the runnings! Top 5 Tantalizing Blog Title Techniques
BTW – I also have a few “Mr Mom” style postings in my Family & Parenting category that you might get a kick out of.
Lisa,
I like number 4 the best. That has been essential skill in my experience as a Dad.
Nice list.

All the best,
George
I would add:
1. Many, many Band-aids
2. Gin and Tonic
3. Ability to think of bogus explanations quickly (doesn’t end with toddlerhood)
For more you can check out my post to see what is in your future….
Good Luck!
I think number 1 gets us the farthest along! And keeps us from going absolutely insane in the process! Humor is definitely required in parenting.
Can I add: the number of a good plumber? My daughter flushed a bath toy down the toilet, leading to the replacement of the entire toilet — before that she put everything she could think of down the bathroom sink, including toilet paper to glue it all together — and before that… Let’s just say I have my plumber on speed dial at this point.
Lisa – I ordered my baby announcements from you – which by the way have gotten RAVE reviews (Sophie Brynn)! I have since found out I am laid off and have started blogging. i would LOVE to talk to you about your experience and your site. Sue
Kids are so fun. I have to do 100 things to survive my 2 year old. But the 5 things posted here are on the top of my list.
