Mushroom Asparagus Soup

1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 can of asparagus (cut, undrained)
1 onion
1 cup of milk
1 Tb butter
Pepper to taste
Sharp cheddar cheese if desired

Heat butter in pan, saute onions until clear.  Add cream of mushroom soup, add 1 can of milk and stir well.  Add asparagus, with liquid, and stir well.  Bring almost to a boil, stirring often until onions are cooked. Sprinkle cheese on top if desired.
