I’ll climb on the counter, but I don’t want to fall down the drain….
Ah, the joy of the toddler mind. He comes up with the funniest things to say and do, entertaining us every day. He delights in climbing up on the counter at every chance he gets, as well as climbing up jungle gyms and anything else he can find. However, he’s currently screaming at the bathtub because he “no want to fall down” the drain. Now, it doesn’t keep him from getting into the tub, from asking with each breath if he can take a bath, or demanding one the instant Daddy steps in the door. But it surely does make for interesting conversation during the bath….
“No want to fall down. Drain scary”…… “oh no, ducky no fall down”…. “no want to fall down!!”
“You won’t fall down, it’s ok!”
“No want to fall down… no want to fall down, please no fall down, no like it, drain”
Repeat this about 100 times, then tell me that you aren’t either crazy or finding a nice pair of noise-blocking headphones. Oh yes. Then do it again tomorrow…. and the next day….
If only toddlers listened to reason. Or realized how small those little holes in the drain really are. No amount of showing him how his little toys won’t fit, of avoiding draining the tub while he’s around, and other reasonable approaches seem to stall the endless flow. You’d think he’d drive himself crazy with the endless repeating…
