Easter Basket Ideas For Toddlers
Sidewalk chalk(get the good stuff without the lead and other additives because they still like to eat the chalk).
- Thomas the Train
engines
- Mini balls – soccer, basketball, baseball. I saw these at Target last week in a set of three, they aren’t small enough to be a choking hazard, but they could be ripped apart, depending on your child, so always watch them with these.
- Bunny ears!
- Blocks – Peek-a-blocks
are fun for the younger ones, or some extra duplos for the bigger ones.
- Hot Wheels
and other cars (without any detachable parts)
- Stickers
- Larger play figures (Army men, Fisher-Price people, etc).
- Chocolate bunny
- Bubbles – these no spill bubble containers
are a hit around here.
- Smaller sand/bath toys

For the kids in Girlie Girl’s class, I’m getting them all easter egg dye kits. I found them at Target on a layover and I don’t think you can get them anywhere in Hawaii. I hope they like it!
GREAT list! I have not been that organized yet, so I have yet to put my little guy’s basket together! But all of your suggestions would be a HIT! HE LOVES THOMAS, cars, blocks, bubbles, and balls!
Great ideas! For my 4 YO son, he’s getting a Rescue Hero figure, sunglasses, and a new hat. My 2 YO daughter will be getting sunglasses, some fun barrettes (she loves hair stuff!) and some play food. For goodies, they’ll both get fruit snacks and some individual bags of pretzels. Anything individually packaged is automatically cool at our house
Books are always popular in our baskets as are the little plastic easter eggs. Our kids played with the eggs for most of the rest of the year last year.
I have also bought my son some Thomas the tank engine trains, some sidewalk chalk, jelly beans (just about the only candy he likes, bubbles and a Dora video! I think he’ll have a ball!
My boys are 10 and 8, and last year they each got a new chapter book in their basket. And of course, chocolate! For my daughter this year, I’m thinking crayons because she LOVES to color. Target has lots of cute gift basket ideas.
I bought my son who’s almost two a Spud Bunny (Mr. Potato Head), Sally car from Cars Movie, Nick Jr Vehicles (with Blue Clues on it), Small John Deere Tractor, A reeces pieces carrot (Bag with green top shaped like a carrot with reeces in it), and put M&M’s in little eggs. Unfortuately – I am going to either need a bigger basket or two. He has a firetruck basket that he was given while I was pregnant and I can’t seem to part with it. Daddy’s basket is a police car (daddy’s a cop), so they look so cute together.
Your list gave me some great ideas that I didn’t think of. I found this really cute plush lamb puppet and a Wiggle’s book of first words. I still have to pick up some other things as well as her treats. Thanks for the ideas.
My 2yr old son is getting plastic eggs filled with stickers and fruit snacks! I also was thinking about putting in a crayola color wonder coloring book! Mess and worry free
They all sound like great ideas!
oh, don’t forget the PEEPS! lol
Nice list I have an almost 2 year old and the only one candy she will be getting is a choco bunny and M&M’s she loves them. Otherwise Im putting in crayons, coloring book, small board books as she loves to read, bubbles, and not sure what else. Have a nice Easter everyone:)
There are some great idea here! I wish I had thought to get some of those squirting bath toys, my son loved those. He is getting sidewalk chalk, crayons, coloring books, baby sign language flash cards, peeps, some DVDs, eggs filled with cheerios and mini cheez-its, Sesame Street Elmo Clean Up Toy and a Hungry Caterpillar helmet and knee/elbow pad set for his new quad (also an Easter gift). We wound up having to do two Easter baskets, but I was so excited to find so many great things to put in his basket without having to fill it with candy. We are not big fans of candy here (peeps are my weakness and therfore the exception!). I was also happy to find some education things to sneak in there (the flash cards and DVDs). I also love your article with suggestions for filling the eggs!
These are great ideas—we’re trying to keep the sugar content low because it really keeps our 20-month-old son from sleeping! One thing I found that I’ll also be putting in his basket are snacks from Annie’s natural foods (you can get them at Wegman’s, Whole Foods, and some Targets)—they make little cheddar crackers (zero sugar!) and gummy fruit snacks (organic!) shaped like little bunnies. They’re going to be perfect fillers for plastic Easter eggs.
See’s candy is always a favorite of ours. I also put other things like a pink stone heart. My husband and I found a hand painted egg with an angel on it at a Russian shop. Books are always great and money to teach your children how to save.
Last year I went to a spiritual shop for Angel coins and beautiful rocks girls love little things too.
This year my daughter is 2 1/2 and we went to Party City and picked out toys from the bins of party favors! She is getting small rubber/plastic safari animals, a twirly whistle, a mini harmonica, stickers, a couple jelly beans, m&m’s, sidewalk chalk, and crayons. All the eggs and fillers from Party City cost me UNDER $4! the sidewalk chalk and crayons I got from Target for super cheap. I think Party City’s bins are the way to go, everything is 25 cents!
