Cheerful, friendly, sweet and mostly innocent – my favorite things about Lil’ Duck!
During our errands today, I was thinking about our favorite things (the subject of the Blogging Chicks carnival tomorrow, actually). You see, Lil’ Duck’s favorites are always changing, but I’d always assumed that mine would stay the same or gradually change over time. Well, I think I’m becoming more like Lil’ Duck now, because my favorite things about him are ever-changing now as well.
When we were walking to Starbucks, as we love to do, he was so cheerful and friendly, he smiled at everyone and gave them high-fives, then sat so peacefully on his chair, drinking his soy milk & my strawberries & cream drink, and eating MY cookie and his pumpkin bread (why I even try to get anything for myself is a mystery). So I think this is one of my current favorite things, being able to take him out and just enjoy him – his friendly personality, his joy over every little thing (the “WOW, mama, rocks!!” was especially heartwarming), how BIG he is getting, and so on. He can get his own soy milk, put the straw in, climb up on the chair, then sit and drink it and hold onto it properly. He can walk everywhere with me, and seldom runs away anymore (of course after a while he gets the impish gleam in his eye….). He is so amazed by everything – in the fabric store, he has to feel every texture of fabric and yarn and ribbon, exclaiming it “smooth” or “bumpy” or “wow” – in Office Max, he was amazed by all the “markers” and by the sweet little boy who shared his monkey stickers – and in Wal-mart, he saw a little baby girl and had to make flirty eyes and scrunched up smiley-faces at her.
His daddy said last night that he wanted Lil’ Duck to stay this age forever, and while I can’t entirely agree (especially because there is chocolate on my couch AGAIN), I do wish for him to retain that joy and wonder, and to remain so sweet and friendly and mostly innocent
. I think all of Lil’ Duck’s favorite things would take several more posts, and as my house is a mess and I need some lunch, I’m going to wait for another day to do that, although I certainly will, both for your enjoyment and for our memories!

Very cool! There are MANY things that you can choose as your favorites at this time of your child’s life! I can’t just pick one for my kids! LOL I’m sure you probably agree too…it’s hard to choose what your favorite things are about your child…but it’s nice to talk about the favorites…and it’s nice to be able to kinda’ write them down so that you remember them throughout the years!
Sounds like you and lil’ duck have a lot of mommy and me time which is wonderful!!!! It reminds me of when we went places with our girls when they were younger. They loved to go get “coffee” with mommy and daddy and shop at the clothes stores especially. Hope you all have a great weekend.
The most wonderous time in your life.
Alas most of our children have children now. Grandchildren are awesome but never as wonderful as when your children are small. My advice to you is cherish every moment as if it is your last.
Time flies and when you blink lil duck will be a man.
When you do it right he will still have that look and mom will still be awesome when he has children.
Trust me is is a wonderful feeling when you look at the man you reared and know its good.
Look at me I am being all mushy. lol
He saw a little baby girl and had to make flirty eyes and scrunched up smiley-faces at her……..this is my favorite of all….and that he is learning to touch and feel fabric and know that it is smooth or bumpy. How cute!!!
Hahaha, great post! It’s amazing how fast they grow up & how much they already know.
) Thank you so much for stopping by! I hope he likes the giraffe!
D
So sweet! How wonderful for you to be able to enjoy every moment (even the impish ones!) with you lil’ duck!
totally off topic for this post, but where did you get the duck in the middle picture of your heading? my daighter would LOVE one!
How sweet! My only child is 18 and will start college in August. So far, every day has brought a new “favorite” thing about her. As your little one grows, you’ll know just what I mean.
How very dear Lil Duck sounds. I hope he retains this joyous innocence, too! It mus t be such a deep pleasure to go anywhere and everywhere with him!
Thanks so much for the “Heads Up” about this post.
That’s so cute! Enjoy the time with him as much as possible. My son starts 1st grade in 2 wks. and I won’t be seeing him all day! I’m really sad about that. ‘Lil Duck sounds like he enjoys the mommy and me time just as much as you do!! I love this age of toddlerhood, before they start school, because they are learning so much!
I know. I love spending time just me and my little princess. She is so funny and interesting now. I laugh at her every day. Great post.
He sounds like the sweetest little boy…and Mama’s diet aid, apparently, too LOL!
Very rarely do I actually enjoy kids, I don’t have anything against them, don’t hate them, just don’t love them. But I have to say, this post makes me want to have some of my own! You know, I remember being at a coffee shop sometime in 2005. I watched as a lady and her little boy walked in. He wasn’t much more than 5, so cute in his little boots and jeans – typical “little boy” wear. When his Mom had ordered for them he walked in front of her and opened the door for her and was picking them a table on the patio. It was so heartwarming – movie-like. I wanted to hug him to bits! Your journal reminds me of that feeling +o)
Actually, your timing was perfect. I’m winding down, and I need to be winding up. So, I appreciated the visit. And, as I came over here to let you know that, you reminded me about the Carnival of the Blogging Chick. I wrote it — as one of the Blogathon entries — and I was going to copy and paste it to my regular blog and email Michelle with my summary…but I got sidetracked, distracted … something. So, your timing was perfect, and it also reminded me of something I still needed to do!
I really do appreciate you stopping by!
I think it is very cool that you are relationship-building with your little quacker. We are their only security, in their little minds, and it’s so special that we can be there for them. Time is just SO short, you know? Blessings to you today!

I have to say, I’m really enjoying this age with my son (he’s 19 months old). Like your son, he’s sweet, friendly, and quite outgoing in public. His sunny disposition and beaming smile attracts a lot of attention. He also has such an innocent and refreshing joy of life that I hope doesn’t change for a long, long time.
Great post!
I have sooooooooooo many favorite things about brat1 and brat2 that I couldnt even begin to imagine posting them all. Even when they are mad, sad or just plain mean, ya know? The faces they make, the things they say, the way they ball their fists and put them on their hips…EVERYTHING! Lil’ Duck Duck sounds like such a fun little guy, I’d love to meet him
He and my girls would have fun playing and we maybe could enjoy an ENTIRE drink and cookie all by OURSELVES! LOL I just dont know that it would taste the same though! Nothin like a little child slobber on your glass or food to give it that great flavor
Have a wonderful evening
Looking forward to seeing your next post!
Oh this blog is adorable!!! and I love the header photos! I am going to link to you…keep coming in to visit my Blog from time to time
Thanks for the link MamaDuck. What a sweet time. I was just thinking this week about how perfect my baby’s hand still fits into mine. i want to remember the feel of his little hand in mine forever.

similar feelings to the ones you have about Lil’ Duck.
See ya around.
That is great you are able to spend so much time together, it’s priceless. Love Starbucks!
Great post! I just love it! How cute!
You are creating a beautiful blog to look back
on later. I am so glad you are doing this.
When you read this years from now it will warm
your heart and enable to you to hold these moments
even closer…
Thank you for sharing..
Have a wonderful day…
Huge Huggles from the Raggedy One
What a great entry! Enjoy EVERY stage – especially stages like this – where the sweetness seems to outweigh the sticky stuff. Before you know it, he’ll be 18 years old, an adult, embarking upon a life of his own, more separate from you than is comfortable, except that you’ll find joy in watching his wings spread so that he can soar!
Hi again. The kiddies just amaze me in their zest for life. While I drag myself out of bed moaning and groaning, they leap out singing and excited about the day ahead. I could really learn alot from my little ones (even when I find that little L has drawn on the sofa with permanent marker, grrr, lol). Sarah
I love it too that my little one doesn’t run away anymore and stays with me. He is getting more aware of the cars. The fabric store sounds like a great idea. I might take Soma someday soon…
Sweet. When my daughter was one, we often went to Starbucks, too. It was a good outing for us. She loved the cookies and pumpkin bread of course, but I remember her loving putting the stuff in the trash, too.
Very nice post! He sounds so sweet. I remember recently when I was out with a friend and his 18-month-old daughter, I was very taken with the fascination with which she viewed the world, even the simple things like a plate of french fries at Steak ‘n’ Shake, or a window display in the mall.
Thanks for sharing! Reading about Lil Duck really made me smile.
How sweet. You know everyday with my own little men, no matter how frustrating things get, they can flash that little smile and I just melt. And of course, thinking that we are the best mommies in the world… well it makes it all worth it! These are the days to remember!
We love to go to the coffee shop, hang out, I’ll blog a little, it is amazing how many more people talk to us now with a baby, before the baby, nobody on our street seemed interested in our lives, but now they can’t help but come see our little girl
yes – there are so many favorite things with children!!! i have thought alomst every stage my son is in is theperfect one, because they all had so many wonderful things I just love!!!
The food thing doesn’t really get better. I can’t remember the last time I got to eat an entire cookie or piece of cake, LOL!
I know where you’re coming from. Now that Girlie Girl is 4, she’s much more well behaved when we go out. I don’t need the stroller or shopping carts anymore. She’ll just walk and we’ll hold hands. We have some great conversations together.
BTW, even though you give them a choice, why do kids ALWAYS want to eat your food instead?
Here via the Carnival of Family Life but I would have stopped by anyway!
You won\’t believe it right now…but one day your favorite thing will be watching them pack up and head out on their own.
sorry… I messed up my URI on my comment
How very sweet! They grow up so very fast—way faster than I am ready for.
I’m here via the Family Life Carnival
xoxo
Oooo…a mother’s love
, and a child’s reciprocal love, two precious, precious wonders. Especially after chocolate invades the whole house! Savor each stage, they’re all full of their own “favorite” memories!
Aww. That’s so sweet! Our Bean loves Starbucks too. She spends weekdays with Grannie (my MIL), while we work; and they go to Starbucks every day. The people there know her and she knows their names. So I could totally identify with your post. And also the fact that she’s growing and developing and progressing so much every day – she’ll be 2 tomorrow.
You invited me over to this post from when you toured my home and I’ve been so busy I’m just now getting a chance to come over. *sigh*
Thanks for stopping by for my home tour & for the invite over to this great post! I’ll have to come back & visit you. Hope you have a chance to visit me again soon!
