Butterfly Treats

June 24th, 2008

Purple Butterfly Photo 5th Birthday InvitationLet your guests help you create these fun treats, or make them beforehand and surprise everyone. The children will be so delighted, they won’t even realize they’re eating something nutritious! Clean 4 celery stalks. Cut each one into 4-inch pieces. Fill celery with peanut butter, cream cheese, or spreadable cheese. Place a pretzel on either side of the celery to form wings. Use broken pretzel pieces to make the antennae and add raisins to make eyes. Butterfly Relay Race

June 23rd, 2008

In advance, cut 4 large butterflies from poster board and decorate them in bright colors (you can color plain cardboard as well). Each butterfly should be approximately 12-15 inches in diameter. Divide your party guests into two teams and give the first person in each line two butterflies. These butterflies become the only thing they can step on as they travel to the end of the room, and back to the next team member. Place one butterfly on the ground, step on it with both feet, place the next one down, and hop onto it. While standing on the second butterfly, pick up the first one and place it in front again. When the first guest is finished, he or she passes the butterflies to the second player. Repeat until everyone finishes. This relay game will keep everyone laughing!

Buggy Bean Bag Toss

June 22nd, 2008

This is a great activity for kids of all ages! Purchase any bean bags suitable for tossing. You can also make your own by filling old socks with dried beans and securing the end with string, or a rubber band. Attach scraps of fabric with glue or thread to make butterfly wings. Draw eyes and other features with a marker. Make a target out of a bucket, a small Radio Flyer Wagon, or a drawing with holes on a large cardboard box or a piece of poster board. Place the target about 10 ft. away, and give each child a chance to toss the bean bags into the target. Award small gifts or candy to those who toss three bean bags into the target.

June 22nd, 2008

Butterfly Green Photo Birthday InvitationTake your guests on a journey to the clouds! This tasty treat will fool their tummies into thinking they’re flying like a butterfly, high in the sky!

Cook one cup of macaroni until tender; drain. Saute 1 small chopped onion in margarine until tender. Add 2 Tbs. cornstarch and 2 cups nonfat milk; cook and stir until thick and bubbly. Reduce heat and cook 2 to 3 minutes longer.

Flutter-Bye Fans

June 21st, 2008

This activity makes a great party favor, and kids will have fun creating their own fancy fan! All you need are crayons, felt tip markers, colored paper, glitter, and tape, along with a few creative minds. Draw pretty pictures of butterflies and other designs on one or both sides of the paper. Then, fold the paper accordion style and fasten one end with tape to create the handle. Gently spread out the other end for a beautiful personalized fan!

Make Your Own Kite

June 20th, 2008

Take a trip outside and let your guests feel the exhilaration of flying! If you do not have a kite of your own, you can make a simple one from sturdy, lightweight fabric, 2 wire coat hangers (or thin wood sticks), and a spool of strong twine. Cut the fabric in a diamond shape. Straighten both coat hangers and form a cross to support the fabric. Attach hangers at the points of the diamond, and cut off excess wire. Attach twine at the center of the cross. To give your kite a tail, attach a 2 to 3-foot piece of twine and decorate it with scraps of fabric.
