Scanning in your photos can seem like a daunting task, especially if you don't consider yourself tech savy. It is actually a fairly simple process and with a couple of quick pointers we will have you scanning in your photos in no time.

STEP 1 - putting your photos on the scanner
This may seem like a no-brainer, but many people think just sticking a picture on the scanner glass will work. Sadly this is not the case. All scanners have a top point that is usually indicated by a small icon. In this corner you will want to put the photo so that it is flush with 2 sides. This gives us a striaght and even scan which is much easier to work with. Once you have the photo situated, it is time to turn to the computer and the software you use to control your scanner.
STEP 2 - setting up the software
There are many different scanners in the market today by just as many different manufacturers. The good thing is that they all have 2 basic variables of size and resolution.
For scanning in any image, you want to use a setting of 300% Scale/Size and 300ppi Resolution/Depth.
You can Click HERE to see an example on a Windows computer of where these controls might be located. If your program doesn't look the same, don't worry. The options are there and you simply might need to refer to the user manual or the help section of the program.
Now this will give you a fairly large file size if done correctly. Be sure to save your image as a .jpg. DO NOT save as a .pdf, .gif, .bmp or any other file extension as we will not be able to edit with them. Repeat this process for any other photos you might need to send to us. If your photo is smaller in size than a 4x6" then we suggest using a 400% setting for Scale/Size. If your picture is an 8x10" you can use a 200% Size/Scale setting.
STEP 3 - sending your photos
This part is the easiest. If you use a program located on your computer such as Mail (Apple Computer) or Outlook Express or Windows Mail then you simply need to compose a new email to "photos@lilduckduck.com" and attach the finished scanned image or images. If you have multiple images, try breaking them up across 2 or 3 emails to insure we receive them
If you use a web based email program such as Hotmail, GMail or Yahoo! then you can follow pretty much the same process. Compose a new email to "photos@lilduckduck.com." However, some email progams online will offer you an option to attach the picture as a "File" or a "Picture." DO NOT use "Picture" as this will compress the file and undo all the work you just did. Always attach your images as "Files" if you are sending them to us or any other printing house.
When composing your email to us with your photos, be sure to place your 5 digit order number in the subject line so we can quickly attach it to your order and therefore expedite your proof.
