New year’s resolutions, goals and dreams for the new year, ordering my life, things and possesions, new start in the new year, keeping my new year’s resolutions…we go through the same routines every New Year – have you made any progress and been sucessful with your ideas, dreams and goals each year? Some years, yes, and some years not so much
.
Read this Part 3 of the list to make your life more alive, more connected, more organized and more true to your goals. If you missed them, read Part 1 and Part 2 first!
7. Invest in your relationship three times a day. “Spend at least ten minutes in the morning, after work and before you go to bed having a positive interaction with your mate,” says Kate Wachs, Ph.D., author of Relationships for Dummies. In the morning, for example, instead of complaining about your day, say “Good morning” with a smile and give him a kiss. When he comes home, talk about good things or just “be” with him. At bedtime, don’t pick fights or try to solve problems. “That’s the time to glue it together, not take it apart.”
8. Have more fun with your $. “Most people feel that if they budget, they won’t be able to do what they want,” says Carrie Coghill, a financial planner and author of What’s Your Investing IQ? “But a budget should give you flexibility, not restrict you.” Maybe you’d like to join a gym that costs $50 a month. Look at your budget and see where that money might come from. For example, if you tend to spend $50 a month on new shoes and kick the shoe-buying habit, you can join a gym, shape up and feel better about yourself. “If you know where your money is being spent, you can manipulate it into the areas that will make you happy.”
9. Share your strengths with others. Help those you can identify with personally, says Beck. “If you had a troubled childhood, volunteer to help troubled teens. If you are a cancer survivor, help those with cancer. Use your area of expertise.”
